For his new production, jointly produced by Ensemble Contrechamps and Théâtre Vidy- Lausanne, Ari Benjamin Meyers is looking for an Assistant Director and Choreography Assistant.
PROFILE
- We are looking for a curious and versatile person with an interest in contemporary forms and creative processes on stage.
- A background in theater/ dance / music field is desirable. Experience in choreography or visual and physical directing, as well as a sensitivity to movement, space and music, will be particularly valued.
- Experience of a outdoor art projects is an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills, autonomy, rigour and a strong ability to work as part of a team are essential.
- Fluency in English is essential.
As the project will take place at an outdoor site away from Vidy, a driving licence is a real asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of composer and director Ari Benjamin Meyers and the responsibility ofthe Director of artistic projects of Vidy, the Assistant Director will support the rehearsal process. For example: taking notes, transcribing filmed improvisations, monitoring rehearsal schedules, and liaising between the artistic and technical teams.
The Assistant Director may also be called upon to contribute to work related to movement and choreography.
The position also involves an organisational and logistical dimension, relating to the day-to-day follow-up of the project and supporting the artistic and technical teams throughout the different stages of the creation, which will take place outdoors, at a site separate from Vidy.
The position requires autonomy, practical sense and strong organisational skills, and feeling comfortable with the practical aspects involved in the day-to-day running of the work.
Adaptability and a willingness to contribute to the project’s logistical needs will be appreciated. The Project Civil Twilight takes place at dusk, in an interstitial zone on the outskirts of a city. Urban life has left some traces, but natural elements have reappeared in every possible interstice.
Artist and composer Ari Benjamin Meyers is creating a multifaceted composition for the performer/musicians of Ensemble Contrechamps incorporating the location and what it offers: distances and proximities, interplay between the visible and the invisible, unexpected or challenging situations for the musicians to interpret, opportunities to confront the music with the ground, the earth or whatever else might be found in this place. The performance evokes loss and destruction, the ravages caused by environmental and social neglect –but also nature’s capacity for regeneration and resilience, between abandonment and the promise of renewal.
For this project, Ari Benjamin Meyers brings together six musicians from Ensemble Contrechamps to bring his new outdoor musical work to life in an unusual location near Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne.
SCHEDULE
Applicants must be available for all of the following periods:
- Rehearsals: 8–10 February 2027 at Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne
- Rehearsals: 20 May–9 June 2027 at Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne and an outdoor location nearby
- Premiere: 10 June 2027 at an outdoor location near Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne
Additional preparation periods will probably be scheduled before or between these rehearsal periods.
